Child in Need of Care

A Child in Need of Care case is filed when a child is placed in Police Protective Custody or a concern is brought to the attention of the County Attorney by SRS or another source about the well-being of a child due to safety concerns or the lack of or inability to care by a parent or guardian.

The County Attorney works very close with numerous service providers such as SRS, The Farm, Inc., DCCCA, Juvenile Justice Authority, Labette Center for Mental Health, and others.  These service providers work with families to strengthen parenting skills and family relationships to keep the children in their homes or to reintegrate the children back into their homes if they have been removed.
